False Ceiling Design

The ceiling that defines the room

A false ceiling does more than hide MEP services — it controls the perceived height of a room, directs light where you need it, absorbs sound, adds warmth with wood, and creates the architectural language that ties an interior together.

TNC Architects designs and supervises false ceiling installations for homes, offices, showrooms and hospitality spaces across Ajmer and Rajasthan — with complete lighting coordination, material specification and site supervision included.

Ceiling Types

Six ceiling systems we design & install

Gypsum Board Ceiling

Lightweight, crack-resistant gypsum boards on a metal grid — the premium standard for modern, minimalist and contemporary interiors requiring clean lines.

Cove & LED Lighting

Recessed cove profiles with continuous LED strip lighting — soft ambient uplighting that makes rooms feel larger and more luxurious.

POP Ceiling & Cornices

Plaster of Paris ceiling with decorative mouldings, cornices and medallions — the classic choice for traditional and ornate interior styles.

Wood Batten Ceiling

Linear wood slats with even spacing — natural warmth, acoustic benefit and visual texture for living areas, dining rooms and hospitality spaces.

Shadow Gap Ceiling

A continuous shadow reveal between ceiling and wall — creating the clean architectural edge found in high-end contemporary design.

Metal & Grid Ceilings

Aluminium tiles, clip-in panels and exposed grid systems for offices and commercial spaces — acoustic performance and easy access.

Gypsum False Ceiling
Gypsum & Cove Lighting

Flat, clean, luminous.

Gypsum ceilings with integrated cove lighting channels deliver premium finish, hidden ambient light and architectural cleanliness in one system. TNC Architects details every joint, cove depth and light channel before installation begins.

Taped & Filled Joints

Three-coat taping on all board joints — no cracks, surface sanded smooth ready for paint.

LED Cove Channel Detail

Cove profile sized so the LED strip covers the full ceiling — no dark patches, consistent warm wash.

Downlight Layout Plan

Downlight positions drawn on RCP — symmetrical, coordinated with furniture and structural members.

Wood Batten Ceiling
Wood Batten & POP Ceilings

Warmth, texture and timeless character

Wood batten ceilings add natural warmth and acoustic control that no painted surface can match — while POP mouldings bring classical elegance to traditional homes.

Batten Spacing & Species

Slat width and gap calculated for visual proportion — teak, pine or engineered timber.

POP Cornice Profiles

Classical and contemporary cornice options — cast in-situ or factory made, invisible joins at corners.

Acoustic Integration

Acoustic felt backing absorbs mid-frequency sound — improving speech clarity in living and meeting spaces.

Our Process

From reflected ceiling plan to finished install

01
Space Assessment

We assess ceiling height, slab condition, MEP runs and room function to determine the best ceiling system and lighting type.

02
Reflected Ceiling Plan

A scaled RCP drawing showing ceiling steps, cove positions, downlight layout and material zones — issued before installation begins.

03
Installation Supervision

On-site supervision at framing, boarding and first-fix stages — checking level, alignment and cove depths.

04
Light Commissioning

All LED strips, downlights and dimmers commissioned together — light levels checked against wall colours and flooring.

Our Belief
"Most rooms are lit from above — few are designed from above. That is the difference a ceiling makes."

Height Control
A correctly designed dropped ceiling creates intimacy and warmth — a mistake here cannot be corrected cheaply once the room is furnished.
Lighting Integration
Downlights, cove strips and pendants designed together on one plan — not added as afterthoughts.
Acoustic Comfort
The right ceiling system significantly reduces sound reflection and echo — making spaces more comfortable.

Why TNC Architects

Why clients trust our ceiling design

Drawn Before Built

Every ceiling is drawn on an RCP before installation — contractors work to measurable drawings, not verbal briefings.

Lighting Coordination

Ceiling structure and lighting designed together — not as separate scopes that create clashes.

All Ceiling Types

Gypsum, POP, wood batten, metal, shadow-gap and cove — we specify and supervise all systems.

Ajmer & Rajasthan

Based in Ajmer — we work across Rajasthan, understanding local materials and climate considerations.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between gypsum and POP false ceiling?
Gypsum board ceilings use pre-manufactured boards on a metal grid — faster to install, more crack-resistant and cleaner flat finish. POP is applied wet and hand-sculpted — allows curved profiles, mouldings and ornate cornices. Gypsum suits modern interiors; POP suits traditional styles.
How much height do I lose with a false ceiling?
A standard flat gypsum ceiling loses 4–6 inches. A ceiling with a cove light step loses 8–12 inches at the step. In rooms with 10ft+ height this is barely noticeable.
Can a false ceiling improve sound in a room?
Yes — significantly. Adding acoustic tiles or felt backing to wood batten ceilings can reduce room reverberation by 30–50%. TNC Architects specifies acoustic-rated systems for bedrooms, home theatres and offices.
What type of LED should be used in cove lighting?
We recommend 2700K–3000K warm white strips for residential coves. CRI 90+ for accuracy. High-density strips (120 LEDs/metre minimum) to avoid visible dots on the ceiling wash.
How long does a false ceiling installation take?
A single room gypsum ceiling takes 3–5 days. A full-flat false ceiling takes 2–3 weeks. POP ceilings with mouldings take 3–4 weeks due to drying time between coats.
